How to Find Your Bra Size: A Complete Cup & Band Sizing Guide

Why Bra Sizing Matters — And Why It's Confusing

Studies suggest up to 80% of women are wearing the wrong bra size. The good news? Measuring yourself at home takes less than five minutes and can completely change how lingerie feels and looks on your body. Whether you're shopping for everyday bras, a special occasion set, or bridal lingerie, getting your size right is step one.

What You'll Need

  • A soft measuring tape
  • A well-fitting (non-padded) bra or none at all
  • A mirror

Step 1: Measure Your Band Size

Wrap the measuring tape snugly around your ribcage, directly under your bust. Keep the tape parallel to the floor and breathe normally. Round to the nearest whole number.

  • If the number is even, that is your band size (e.g., 34).
  • If the number is odd, add 1 inch (e.g., 33 → 34).

Common band sizes range from 30 to 46.

Step 2: Measure Your Bust Size

Wrap the measuring tape around the fullest part of your bust, keeping it parallel to the floor. Don't pull too tightly — you want it to lie comfortably against your skin.

Step 3: Calculate Your Cup Size

Subtract your band measurement from your bust measurement. The difference tells you your cup size:

  • Less than 1 inch → AA
  • 1 inch → A
  • 2 inches → B
  • 3 inches → C
  • 4 inches → D
  • 5 inches → DD / E
  • 6 inches → DDD / F
  • 7 inches → G

So if your band is 34 and your bust is 37, you're a 34C.

Sister Sizes: Your Secret Weapon

Bra sizing is flexible. If a bra in your size doesn't fit perfectly, try a "sister size" — a size that keeps the same cup volume but adjusts the band:

  • Your size: 34C
  • Go down a band, up a cup: 32D
  • Go up a band, down a cup: 36B

All three have the same cup volume — just a different fit across the band.

Sizing Tips for Different Body Types
